A big thank you to all the littles and bigs who joined us for the Mystery Bay Farm Open Barn. The baby goats brought the charm, the humans brought the smiles, and we’re not sure who enjoyed it more. Goat cheese is back in our cooler, spring has arrived, and we’re crossing our fingers Rachael does it all again next year.

Our community store wouldn’t exist without our volunteers. Pictured here are our produce volunteers (minus Katie and Jim M.). Clockwise from the upper left: Richard, Susan, Paddy, Jim N., Sam, and Carolyn. They’ll tell you the same thing: this store is as much about people as it is about groceries. And they take real pride in keeping our fresh, organic produce in beautiful shape. We’re grateful for the time, care, and love they bring to our store.

Island residents Peter and Meredith brought their niece Caroline in for a visit to the store. Caroline told us we had everything she needed from tea to toffee to tomatoes. Caroline, we loved hearing about your Marrowstone adventures with baby goats and trail walks on Indian Island. Congratulations on earning your APRN (Advanced Practice Registered Nurse) degree. The East Coast is lovely, but the Best Coast has a way of calling people back. Just saying.

Doesn’t Ellen look happy? She should. She’s a brand new retiree. Ellen is visiting from New York City for eight weeks and calls the peninsula the “home of my heart,” where she feels most herself. She loves our store for its spacious aisles, organic produce, and cheeriness, and she stocked up on local favorites like CB Nuts. Ellen started Sing It, Sister! on KPTZ in 2015. We love a celebrity sighting.

Jess picked up yams at 30% off. Not sure what to make, she came back for spinach, Face Rock Creamery garlic cheddar, and orange peppers. A yam crust quiche was born.

Mid-bake, she ran back for breakfast sausage for her meat-loving husband, then added it along with sun-dried tomatoes and red onion. (Also from us.)

This is what we’re about. Inspiration. Ingredients. A full meal without leaving the island.

Congratulations to Friends of Fort Flagler and Washington State Parks for a joyful reopening of Fort Flagler’s WWII Theater. We all enjoyed Judith Glass Collins’ play, The Turkey Farmer’s Daughter, written especially for this occasion. Bravo to the dozens of volunteers who made our new community space a reality.
