Good Things Grow Here

Introducing Caden (2), the tiniest hobbit to ever wander through Nordland.

He’s brave, bold, and curious, definitely a hobbit hero in training, minus the “quiet and shy” part.

Thanks to all who joined our Halloween pumpkin weight-and-waist guessing fun. Hats off to Cameron for coming closest to the weight of 170 lbs, 6 oz, and to Mendi and Willis for guessing the 96-inch waist spot-on.

Your gift cards are waiting!

We adored every one of our trick-or-treaters!

Clockwise from top left: Emilee with Maisee (3), Kalesta (6) & Ellie (5), Koshalla the kitty and siblings Colter (2) & Sully (2++). Huge thanks to Aegea for putting together our island trick-or-treating map!

James is a USPS contractor who brings our mail to the Nordland Post Office.

When he noticed the flag beside our building was in tatters, he quietly brought one of his own to take its place.

James, your service in the U.S. Army and your generosity remind us what community looks like. We’re grateful and proud to have your flag flying beside the store.

Hear ye, hear ye! The Nordland Post Office has big news.

You can now mail packages and buy stamps right here on the island. You can use credit and debit cards for now, with cash transactions on the way.

Huge thanks to Summer for pushing this across the finish line!

Molly is pictured here offering tastes of Mystery Bay Farm’s new fromage blanc cheese to Neil and Kathryn.

Made with cow’s milk from Dungeness Valley Creamery, the cheese was an instant hit; rich, fresh, and udderly delicious. Visitors enjoyed sampling the cheese and hearing about Molly’s apprenticeship at the farm.

That’s local goodness at its best.

The fromage blanc is now available in our cheese fridge!

We are humbled by the outpouring of contributions to the Nordland General Store Community Pantry.

Every dollar given goes directly to community members experiencing food insecurity. Any Marrowstone, Hadlock, or Chimacum resident who needs food assistance may purchase up to $50 of groceries at our store once per month, free of charge.

Curious what $50 can provide? Each basket of food shown below comes in just under that amount. Please help us spread the word and offer nourishment where it’s needed most.

No proof of need. No judgment. Just community.

Here’s another way to support our community: our red food donation box is now on our front porch, accessible to everyone.

Have some? Leave some. Need some? Take some.

Please avoid leaving food that might attract critters! A volunteer will pick up any food that remains each Tuesday and deliver to the food bank.

Thank you Carol!

Thank you, Kelli Estes, for spending the afternoon with us and sharing the stories behind The Girl Who Wrote in Silk and your other books.

Your journey to becoming an author is as inspiring as the worlds you create on the page. And thank you to everyone who joined us for a rich, energizing conversation. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!

Stay tuned… more events are on the horizon!
