Over 300 Members!

Thanks to you, we surpassed our first membership goal! It’s with deepest gratitude that we report we have met our first membership goal for the Nordland General Store cooperative. Our initial goal was to get 300 members during our membership campaign, and after just two weeks, we are proud to announce we have reached the magic number of 310! But we are not done yet!

It’s Official!

The Nordland General Store on Marrowstone Island will be back in business this summer! To offer more insights and answer queries, the Nordland General Store welcomes all to a drop-in session on Saturday, January 27th, from 10 AM to 2 PM at the store location (7180 Flagler Rd, Nordland WA 98358). Members of the founding board will be present to connect with the community and provide detailed information about this exciting venture.

A little history…

The Nordland General Store (initially the Nordland Trading Company) began when islander Elmer Johnson launched the small trading post in conjunction with a ferry boat to operate between Nordland and Port Townsend in 1922. Goods including eggs, fresh produce, large scale shipments of strawberries, and of course passengers were traded back and forth.

Why A Community Store?

Since the 1920’s, the Nordland General Store has been the heart and soul of our island community, and a welcome stop for the hundreds of thousands of visitors to Fort Flagler State Park annually. In re-opening the store, we knew that only a community-based effort could keep the store going and thriving, for, well, at least another 100 years.

Our initial board looked at varying business and governance models from around the nation and settled on the most community focused one: a cooperative!
